Timeshare Exchange
What options do I have if I can’t use my allocated week?
The most used option is to exchange your week for a more convenient time, using the services of one of the exchange companies. The two largest, Resort Condominiums International (RCI) and Interval International have over 3000 resort destinations to choose from. The system is very simple. It works by you paying a nominal fee and “depositing” your week into a “spacebank” for withdrawal at a later time, either at your home resort or any of the resorts affiliated with the Company. Your exchange options are determined by the desirability of your own property as assessed by place, season or color, size and resort rating. You can’t for example exchange your winter week in a Virginia Beach for seven June days in California.
What are Gold Crown and Five Star Ratings?
Both the major exchange companies have a system for assessing resort desirability and a Gold Crown is the highest rating in the RCI system. A Five Star rating is the highest ranking for I.I affiliated resorts.
What are maintenance levies used for?
The upkeep of the common property, on a daily weekly and long-term basis is essential to the proper running of a resort and to maintain the value of your investment. Your maintenance levy is used on a daily basis for maintenance of pools, gardens, corridors and general upkeep as well as for the staff that work to ensure well-being every year. Also, there is a reserve fund that is used for major works, emergencies and insurance premiums. In the United States, the rules governing the amounts and use of these funds is regulated by state Governments and audited for your protection.
