Timeshare Weeks Information QuestionsWhat is the difference between a fixed and float timeshare week? A fixed week is a specific seven-day period, beginning on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and identified by number, in the calendar year. Timeshare ownership of a fixed week gives you the right to occupy a specific unit for the allocated seven-day period each year. A floating week is a right to occupy a unit in the resort for any seven-day period during the year, based on availability. The right to occupy is not usually limited to a specific unit, and in many cases is not limited to one resort. What is Flex Time? Flex time is similar to a floating week except that you are limited to specific periods during the year. Your timeshare ownership may be for winter flex time, so you can choose any week during December, January or February to use your unit. Which is great if you own property in a ski resort, but not as attractive for owners at beach resort in Virginia and the pricing reflects that demand. What is Bi-annual ownership? Bi-annual timeshare ownership is the right to use your unit in the resort every other year. This is a recent refinement in timeshare ownership, developed firstly by the larger and more established Companies because it gave owners more flexibility. It enables owners to buy their accommodation with credits or points. The more points, the more options owners have to travel in the “high season” and choose larger units, at a more desirable resort. Also, you can “spend” less points and limit your stay to a weekend or save your points for two or three years and go on an extended vacation. Or in the case of organizations like Marriott or Sheraton, convert your points to a hotel stay at one of the Company’s hotels. Or with companies like Disney, convert your credits to a south sea cruise. How does the color-coding system work? Each resort or area has “peak-seasons” and “off-seasons.” For example, Vail in Colorado is most attractive as a resort destination during the winter months. December in Vail is therefore peak-season, June is the off-season. Peak-season is red, “shoulder” seasons white and yellow and off-season, either blue or green. |
